The Spirit of Giving

As always this time of year, all of us at Designer Decal begin to focus our attention on the holidays with our families, and on our community. Last year Designer Decal implemented a new program called Pay to Give for its employees encouraging us to spend a day volunteering for a local charity. It is often difficult to find the time for volunteer efforts so this not only allows for a new and gratifying experience, but may even be the inspiration for us to continue to find ways to give back to our community throughout the year.

Second Harvest’s mission is “Fighting hunger, feeding hope” and distributes over two million pounds of free food per month to help those in need throughout our region. Several of our team chose to spend their time helping check in and sort food items for distribution. During their shift our team members helped to sort and pack over 10,000 pounds of bread! Working together at Second Harvest was a terrific experience to interact with our co-workers on a completely different level than our normal day-to-day work environment.

Others at Designer Decal chose to volunteer for the Christmas Bureau, which offered a wide variety of toys and books, as well as grocery vouchers, for more than 9,000 families in our Spokane community. Each family is allowed to pick out one toy and one book per child for the holiday, and the volunteers will go the extra mile to ensure these families have a merry Christmas. Our team members were amazed and delighted with the high quality toys offered and the selection assortment. There is also a great sense of camaraderie amongst the volunteers, especially those that return year after year.

We are all very grateful to have been given the opportunity to be a part of our communities. We are reminded to be grateful for the blessings that we have, and those we can share.
